Reseña del libro "symbolic data analysis: conceptual statistics and data mining"
symbolic data analysis is a relatively new field that provides a range of methods for analyzing complex datasets. standard statistical methods do not have the power or flexibility to make sense of very large datasets, and symbolic data analysis techniques have been developed in order to extract knowledge from such data. symbolic data methods differ from that of data mining, for example, because rather than identifying points of interest in the data, symbolic data methods allow the user to build models of the data and make predictions about future events. this book is the first to present a unified account of symbolic data analysis methods in a consistent statistical framework. it features a substantial number of examples from a range of application areas, including health, the social sciences, economics and computer science. it includes implementation of the methods described using sodas software which has been developed by a team led by edwin diday and is freely available on the web and one chapter provides a basic guide to the software. it also features exercises at the end of each chapter to help the reader develop their understanding of the methodology, and to enable use of the book as a course text. the book is supported by a website featuring a link to download sodas software, datasets, solutions to exercises, and additional teaching material.
