Reseña del libro

Precedents to the Dictionary In November of 2014, following a proposal by Santiago Muñoz Machado, professor of Administrative Law and Secretary of the Real Academia Española (RAE), the RAE and Spain s General Council of the Judiciary signed an agreement to develop a dictionary of legal Spanish as well as a judiciary style guide. The Spanish Law Dictionary, developed with the same methodology and the same lexicographic criteria used in language dictionaries, is based on simple definitions enhanced by usage indications for each word or phrase and with documents extracted from laws, jurisprudence, or doctrinal works. The Pan-Hispanic Spanish Law Dictionary The next step was the important work of producing a pan-Hispanic version of this dictionary. The Pan-Hispanic Spanish Law Dictionary was prepared by a team of more than 400 legal experts and linguists from Spain and the Americas, following the plan outlined by professor Santiago Muñoz Machado, who directed the work. The starting point was The Spanish Law Dictionary, which was corrected and improved, then expanded with the most important lexical features from each Spanish-speaking country. This dictionary, published by Santillana, comprises two volumes totaling 2200 pages and close to 40,000 entries, with vocabulary originating from all Spanish-speaking countries. This is the first time in the history of the Spanish language and law that a work of this type has been created. You can be sure that there is no dictionary of this type that encompasses legal language from the entire Spanish-speaking community. It s not uncommon to see dictionaries and encyclopedias that attempt to compile the primary legal concepts from Spain, groups of countries, or specific places in the Americas, but never a work that includes the entirety of the Spanish-speaking world, nor one that uses the lexicographical method used in The Pan-Hispanic Spanish Law Dictionary.
